Color My World

This isn’t a secret. Anyone who knows me knows that I really am into white. At least in decorating my own cottage. Everything goes with white – right? And I almost always incorporate a few black & white accents into a room. That’s my thing.

There are hundreds of colors of white so incorporating one of those into your life is fairly simple.

The Sherwin Williams 2016 color of the year is Alabaster White (SW7008). Here is the explanation from Jackie Jordan, Sherwin-Williams director of color marketing:

“Alabaster represents a straightforward and necessary shift to mindfulness. It provides an oasis of calmness, spirituality and ‘less is more’ visual relief. Alabaster is neither stark nor overly warm, but rather an understated and alluring white.”

Benjamin Moore also has an expert. They’ve chosen Simply White (OC-117) as their color for 2016.

Here’s what they say about Simply White. “White is transcendent, timeless, it’s versatility unrivaled. Explore a colorful palette that celebrates the simplicity of white”

Well I usually don’t take “expert” advice but in this case, since it’s white, I’ll agree!

I’ve decided to embrace simplicity and mindfulness myself this year. I must be on the right page since Alabaster provides an oasis of calmness and spirituality and Simply White is transcendent and timeless.

My advice, since most of us don’t repaint and change our whole décor every year, is to incorporate white into what you have now. And if you already have white, use soft grayed colors for accessories to make a peaceful neutral statement.

In my case I do have to throw in at least a little black & white!

I’ve always wondered what color white this is?
