Art I Love and Discount Shopping

IMG_3842Already the beginning of March and it looks like we made it the through pretty unscathed. In the real estate market, it’s already Spring.

I’m a Realtor so I see a lot of houses. Since I’m also a designer, sometimes it is not the house but the owner and his collections. I got to know this lovely man whIMG_3840en I was asked by the listing agent to evaluate the interior and see what needed to be done to get the house on the market. I was so wowed by his collection of interesting items and modern art it was hard to see anything else. Eye candy for an artist!  I don’t know how much of this amazing collection he will be able to take with him to a smaller condo but I am so happy I was able to see all of it now.

On another note, I do stage houses and now that spring is here, I like to show off the exterior as well as interior. My secret shopping advice is Ross. You may know this discount department store. Yes, you have to be able to look through the “not so nice” merchandise to find the treasures. When I’m staging I am looking for less expensive but upscale items to put in the house. Great outdoor pots and garden accessories are usually in stock all year round. (That’s why my basement storage looks like it does).

                                                                                     Found these chairs, too

Next go to the pillow aisle. There’s always a big collection of throw pillows for less than the price at TJ Maxx or Home Goods. I must admit that some of these have ended up in my living room!

Look what I found in the furniture collection at my Ross. Lucite chairs. Many designers use them in traditional or modern homes to open up the space. These were $79 each. At Wayfair online I saw them for $450. They are probably not the same quality but if you’re just looking for a change these would certainly work for me. This is one of my best deals yet!

Shopping, like the real estate market, will be picking up as we get into spring. I’m resting!
