Spring in My Cottage

pillows

I used to always move my furniture around, In fact when my daughters were growing up, and I called my oldest she would say, ”it’s Sunday afternoon. Mom’s going to move furniture!” With my smaller house it is harder to move everything.

A few weeks ago I got it in my head that I was sick of my bedroom furniture. Once it’s in my head it doesn’t go away.

I acquired my bed and dresser from the clean-out of my uncle’s house – 16 years ago. How could it be so long?? A beautiful burled walnut headboard & foot board, early 20th century in the Empire style and a marble topped dresser. A wonderful antique find. I have used it and I have loved it. But the time had come for lighter and whiter. As I have learned from my downsizing clients and auction experts, this type of antique furniture really doesn’t have much value in today’s market. Since I knew that, I wasn’t expecting much but I knew before I could buy something new I had to get this out. My great clean-out guy said he would take it to auction for me. That was solved.

old bed

So happens I was trolling Ebay and came across a white iron bed with just the right amount of swirly detail. Only 20-30 years old but… As it turns out the bed was in Reedsville PA – in the middle of the state about 3 hours from Philadelphia. What could I do now that I wanted it? Never doubt that old friends are the best. This is who I called. A friend who has a farm in western PA and goes there often. And he goes through Reedsville. And he has a pick-up truck. It was meant to be!

new bed.3I put it together, put on my Bella Notte linens and slept in it last night. I moved a lovely white dresser from another room and now Spring has Sprung at my Cottage.

Some wonderful outdoor markets coming soon.

What will I move next?

  1. Sounds lovely. So I gave up and ended going to Ikea. I bought an overstuffed chair and a white slipcover. I’ll take pics, but better yet, why don’t you come over and see the new guest room and new bathroom? Would love to visit with you. BTW, Marc is doing a show and tell for the residents at Einstein Hospital on March 22nd. He needs people… and the best part is you only have to pay the cost of the product. Let me know if you are interested.

    1. Just read your message. I’d love to see you.
For the last 3 weeks I’ve been muddling through my important stuff to do. I started with a bad back with pain down my leg. the chiropractor is helping that and then I got cold that won’t quit. Old age???
I do need botox. What date is he doing that?
Still lets set up a time for coffee.
